22Dragons History

22Dragons was founded in 2003 by Matthew Smith and Matthew Robert. Both are former National Team dragon boat paddlers, and each have over 20 years of paddling experience. Matthew Smith currently sits as President of Dragon Boat Canada, and Matthew Robert is one of the authors of Dragon Boat Canada's coaching certification program.

22Dragons operates a club with close to 1000 members on the Lachine Canal in the heart of Montreal, possesses a fleet of 16 Buk dragon boats, and in 2009 completed a new 7000 sq/ft indoor facility (canalfitness.ca ) with weight training area, multi-purpose room, and indoor paddling tank. All of this has made 22Dragons one of the largest clubs in North America.

22Dragons specializes in event planning and corporate team building. 22Dragons helps communities, charities, and other groups start festivals from scratch, and in 2010 serviced over 40 events in Canada and the United States. In 2010 22Dragons helped charities raise over 2,000,000 $, include the Cedars Cancer Institute who alone raised $585,000 through dragon boating.

22Dragons is a resource for anyone - individual, community, novice, or elite, who wishes to get involved in dragon boat racing.
